In pictures: Edinburgh Festival fireworks 2009
More than 200,000 people gathered in Edinburgh to see the city's annual arts festival end with a bang.
More than 100,000 fireworks exploded over the Scottish capital to the sound of live orchestral music last night.
An estimated 220,000 people gathered in Princes Street Gardens, Inverleith Park, Calton Hill, Waverley Bridge and throughout the city to bid goodbye to the festival for another year.
Matthew Halls led the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and Chorus in an exhilarating performance of some of Handel's most popular works.
