POLICE expressed their disappointment today after the UEFA Cup Final in Manchester was marred by clashes betweeen rival supporters.
Six men, believed to be Rangers fans, were arrested after a Russian supporter was stabbed in the City of Manchester ground. An estimated 100,000 Rangers fans met in the city where their side lost 2-0 to Zenit St Petersburg.
Firefighters cut off car roof to free driver
FIREFIGHTERS had to cut the roof from a car to help free the driver following a crash in Midlothian. The accident happened just after 5pm last night, close to the Pentland Science Park at Bush Loan. It is understood three cars were involved. Emergency services were alerted and rushed to the scene.
A spokeswoman for Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue service said ambulance staff had asked them to cut the roof from one of the cars, in order to give them as much space as possible to remove the injured man.
The man was understood to be complaining of back and neck injuries, and was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for a precautionary scan. It was not known whether anyone else was injured.
10m lost through fraud or error in public sector
AN anti-fraud drive by public-sector bodies has uncovered nearly 10 million in scams and mistakes, and the figure is likely to rise. Spending watchdog Audit Scotland discovered a total of 9.7 million had been paid out as a result of fraud, overpayment or errors, according to reports.
Ex-city students' brewery faces blacklisting
AN award-winning microbrewery set up by two former Edinburgh students faces being blacklisted for allegedly encouraging antisocial behaviour in its marketing and promotions. BrewDog, based in Aberdeenshire, has come under fire from the Portman Group, the industry body that monitors the promotion and advertising of products, according to a newspaper.
However the company claimed it was being unfairly targeted.
