If rumours are true, Hoy is on track for knighthood

CYCING hero Chris Hoy is expected to pick up a knighthood in the New Year's Honours List.

Whitehall sources have suggested that the Scottish cyclist, who is just 32 years old, is being put by the sporting advisory committee at No 10 after picking up three gold medals at this summer's Olympic Games.

It is unusual for sportsmen to be honoured by the Queen with a knighthood before they retire. However, Hoy has vowed to postpone that at least until after the 2014 Commonwealth Games. His fellow athlete Rebecca Adlington, 19, is also expected to be rewarded for her two swimming gold medals with an OBE.

Suggestions that veteran entertainer Bruce Forsyth will finally pick up a knighthood have still not been confirmed. The 80-year-old entertainer has been the subject of a massive internet campaign for a knighthood over the last few months.

Bookmaker William Hill is currently not accepting any more bets on Forsyth, while Ladbrokes is thought to be still offering 2/1 odds, potentially the shortest ever price for a potential knighthood.
