Ian solves missing artwork mystery THE last mystery of Edinburgh’s book sculptor looks to have been solved by the city’s biggest crime author. The mystery sculptor delighted the Capital by leaving an array of intricate artworks created from books at locations including the National Museum of Scotland and the Scottish Poetry Library. It was there that the sculpture marked “10/10” was discovered last week, along with a note suggesting it would be the last work. That left just one puzzle – where was sculpture number eight? Well, author Ian Rankin appears to have the answer – it’s in his house. The Rebus writer took to Twitter to post a picture of the fabulous artwork, which shows two skeletons enjoying a drink by the side of a coffin. The artwork appears to have been left for Rankin at a local bookshop, and the author noted: “I collected my parcel.” Councillor’s smart mouth gets him into trouble Any politician would want to avoid the electorate getting the impression that they are aloof. You only have to look at the bother Jenny Dawe got into when she once referred to the electorate as the “hoi polloi”. But it seems at least one Lib Dem councillor has not learned a lesson. During a debate on privatisation of services, Tim McKay said: “We Liberal Democrats are often accused of being cold, dispassionate and a bit too intellectual.” The comment led to a less intellectual hollering of “NO!” from the opposition benches. Scott Thomson joined us for a day recently and by way of “homework” took an interest in our expert’s football betting forecast to the extent of putting £8 on a five-team roll-up featuring Manchester United, Charlton, Southend, Cheltenham and Watford. The bet came up at odds of 33-1, leaving Scott £290 richer for his day at the News.
