I'll be there for shure, promises Sir Sean
SIR Sean Connery aims to keep his promise of appearing at the opening night of the Edinburgh Film Festival despite chipping a bone in his shoulder.
His spokeswoman Nancy Seltzer said last night that he tripped while playing a round of golf in New York State.
He is not in hospital, but his arm is in a sling.
Sir Sean himself was not available for comment. "He's driving back to New York City and is feeling fine," said Seltzer.
Sir Sean is patron of the film festival, along with Tilda Swinton. He is due to fly to Scotland tomorrow and appear on Wednesday evening at the premiere of the opening film The Edge of Love, a drama about Dylan Thomas's love life, starring Keira Knightley.
The opening night premiere takes place at Cineworld at Fountain Park, just a few hundred yards from the tenement where Sir Sean grew up.
Last night, Ms Seltzer insisted: "For now, his plans remain the same."
She added that the injury was "not complicated" and he should be able to make the transatlantic crossing. His arm is in a sling but not in plaster. Sir Sean has had several health scares in recent years. He has had cataracts removed from his eye and a benign tumour from his kidney. He also has regular checks on this throat, following the discovery of growths some years ago.
Later this summer, he is due at the Edinburgh Book Festival for the launch of his book Being a Scot. He is 78 on 25 August, the day of his planned reading.
