Hybrid fuel car driven by city

A HYBRID powered car that uses half the fuel of a regular vehicle in city traffic has been created using technology that originated at Edinburgh University.

Artemis Intelligent Power, a company formed by university researchers, has converted a BMW 530, reducing its carbon emissions by 30 per cent in combined city and motorway driving.

The vehicle is powered with a mixture of stored energy and petrol, and switches seamlessly between the two.

The company's engineers have said there is no compromise on the performance of the converted car.
