Hunt for race-hate attacker in city centre

POLICE are hunting a man who racially abused one man and punched another in the face as they walked in the city centre early today.

The suspect shouted racial abuse at an Asian man in Greenside Place, near the Playhouse theatre, at around 3am.

The Asian man kept on walking but turned back and saw the suspect punch another man in the face.

Police say they have not yet traced the man who was hit.

He is described as white, in his early 20s, and around 6ft, of slim build and with dirty blond/brown hair. The suspect is described as white, in his early 20s, around 5ft 7in and with a slim build. He has short red hair and wore a sky-blue V-neck jumper.

A police spokesman said: "The suspect was said to have been acting very aggressively prior to the assault, and we want to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time and noticed him there.

"Anyone who recognises his description or who has any other information should get in touch with police."
