Hunt on for conmen who stole money

POLICE are hunting bogus workmen who tricked their way into an elderly woman's house before stealing cash and jewellery.

A man called at the victim's home in Northfield Farm Drive at around 1pm on Wednesday and claimed he had to sort out water problems in the property.

It is suspected another person stole jewellery and money from other rooms while the caller distracted the pensioner.

The suspect is described as white, 5ft 6in tall, around 25 years old, of slim build with short fair hair. He was wearing a matching dark blue jacket and trousers, and may have had a foreign accent.

In another incident at around 3pm the same day, a man claiming to be from the water board called at a home in Blackwood Crescent, Newington. After conning his way inside, he stole money.

The suspect is described as white, 5ft 8in tall, of slim build, between 25 to 30 years old with messy mousy or fair hair.
