Hunt for sex attackers after assault on schoolgirl

A SCHOOLGIRL has been subjected to a serious sexual assault after being attacked by two teenagers on Leith Walk.

Police say the pair were both riding BMX-style bikes when they approached the 13-year-old between 10pm and 11pm last Friday night.

The girl had been out with friends in the Lorne Street area when she left the group and began to walk home along Leith Walk.

The teenagers approached her and made conversation before leading her into a side street and sexually assaulting her.

A member of the public saw the girl after the incident and helped her home where the police were called.

Police today appealed for anyone with information to come forward and are also seeking to trace the good Samaritan who came to the girl's aid.

A spokesman said: "This is deeply upsetting assault for a young girl to endure and we are eager to speak to anyone who can help us with our investigation.

"We have been given an excellent description of the males believed to be involved and now hope that the public can help us locate them.

"Anyone who was in or around the Leith Walk area and saw anything suspicious or has more information regarding the whereabouts of the suspects is asked to contact police immediately."

The first suspect is described as white, between 15 and 17-years-old, approx 5ft 7ins tall with a slim to medium build and blonde hair that was possibly highlighted. He was wearing a black baggy style beanie hat, black jumper, blue baggy jeans, plimsolls and was riding a pink BMX-style bike.

The second suspect is described as white, between 15 and 17-years-old, approx 5ft 9ins tall with a skinny build and brown hair. He was wearing a grey baggie style beanie hat, grey hooded jumper with black singular stripe down each arm and dark grey tracksuit bottoms. He was riding a lilac BMX-style bike.
