Hundreds see Queen open campus
THE Queen was greeted by hundreds of guests as she officially opened the Queen Margaret University Campus in Musselburgh this morning.
East Lothian Lord Lieutenant Sir Garth Morrison greeted the Queen as she arrived at the campus, which claims to be the greenest in the UK.
Rachel Nicoll, 6, a pupil at the nearby Stoneyhill Primary School, presented her Majesty with a posy of flowers.
Professor Anthony Cohen, the university's principal and vice chancellor, then invited the Queen to unveil a plaque commemorating the opening before a tour of some of the campus facilities, where she met staff, including QMUC vice-principal Rosalyn Marshall (pictured above), and students and was given a demonstration of some of the university's modern equipment and study areas.
Among the invited guests was justice secretary Kenny MacAskill MSP, East Lothian Council chief executive Alan Blackie, QMU Chancellor Sir Tom Farmer and Lothian and Borders Police chief constable David Strang.
After leaving the university, the Queen headed to Princes Street to officially open the refurbished Scotland's People Centre in Edinburgh.
The base, at General Register House and New Register House on Princes Street, holds more than 60 million birth, marriage and death records, wills, census records and Coats of Arms.
The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh are in Scotland as part of royal week and hosted 8000 guests at the annual garden party at Holyrood Palace on Tuesday.
