Hundreds hail ethnic event a big success

AN event set up to improve relations between ethnic communities in the west of Edinburgh has been hailed a success.

More than 200 adults and children from a variety of different races took part in the event – featuring music, dancing and food – at the Greenway Centre in Wester Hailes.

Councillor Ricky Henderson, chairman of West Edinburgh Group Against Racism and Harassment, said: "I'm delighted to have been involved with this event again.

"Each year, it goes from strength to strength helping people from different cultures and generations to come together to enjoy each other's company, as well as excellent food, music and dancing.

"Young people in particular seem to enjoy this event and that is really pleasing."

The event was partially funded by the Pentlands Neighbourhood Partnership and the Scottish Government's race, religion and refugee integration team.

Justin Rust, the convener of the neighbourhood partnership, said: "I was pleased to approve funding for this worthwhile event."
