Hoy backs a Monster event

CITY cycling star Chris Hoy has urged the Capital's residents to support Maggie's Cancer Caring Centres' largest annual fundraising event – the Monster Bike and Hike.

Monster 2009 is a 24-hour challenge, with participants completing a 30-mile cycle before choosing to hike for eight, 22 or 43 miles – for a bronze, silver or gold medal respectively.

The event, on May 2 and 3, starts at Ben Nevis and follows the Caledonian Canal and the Great Glen Way.

Edinburgh-born Hoy, awarded a knighthood in the New Year's honours list, said: "The medal around your neck will feel like your own Olympic gold."
