Hospital stall in good hands

VOLUNTEERS at a Lothians hospital have established a stall to encourage visitors, staff and patients to wash their hands.

The post at the entrance to St John's Hospital in Livingston is manned by the health board's patient forum and involves people placing their hands under a UV light to detect dirt and germs.

Hand washing is vital in stopping the spread of infections such as C.diff and MRSA, as well as swine flu.

Patient forum member Ann Henderson said: "People have been very receptive."
