Homes checked for superbugs
A SUPERBUG expert will scrutinise the Lothians' care and nursing homes in a bid to reduce the rates of infection.
Scotland's care watchdog has made the appointment to cut the number of cases of MRSA and C.diff in the area's homes.
The infection control specialist will also check nurseries to ensure the chance of infants catching infection is minimal.
Gillian Stevenson will spend two years working with the Edinburgh-based Care Commission.
She said: "Not all infections can be prevented, but there are many ways the risks can be greatly reduced."
Susan Brimelow, director of healthcare regulation, added: "The public are rightly concerned about infection and we are doing our part to tackle this problem."
