Homecoming 'cringe'
I have never suffered from "cultural cringe", nor have I ever suffered from what Pete Wishart MP calls "an insecurity about our national culture, and heritage", nor am I in the business of "beating myself up about national identity" (Letters, 2 December).
However, as a proud son of Scotia, a country which, indeed, has "high international recognition and a massive international footprint", watching the advert for Homecoming 2009 made the cringe factor come over me big time. If Hamish Macdonell (Debate & Opinion, 2 December) believes it to be a "fabulous little commercial", I can only assume he has a taste for tartan tack, for it doesn't come much tackier than this little number.
