Holyrood poll shows growing support for SNP

THE SNP has increased its lead over Labour in Holyrood voting intentions, poll figures showed today.

Nationalist claimed the figures, from a YouGov poll conducted for the Sunday Times, would give them 52 seats in Holyrood to Labour's 36.

The poll figures put the SNP on 39% in the constituency vote compared to Labour's 26%, and 14% each for the Tories and Liberal Democrats.

The SNP is running at 34% in the regional voted compared to Labour's 26%, the Tories' 14%, the LibDems 13%, and the Greens' 7%.

Compared with April the SNP have gone up 2% in the constituency vote while Labour have dropped 4%.

SNP parliamentary business minister Bruce Crawford said: "On the day after the Calman Commission published its report the significance of these figures is that it would put the pro-independence parties and MSPs within touching distance of an overall majority in the Scottish Parliament, including 52 SNP MSPs and seven Greens."

But the Greens hit out at the minister's comments on independence.

Green MSP Patrick Harvie said his party thought economic injustice and the climate crisis were more important than the constitution.

"And considering the track record of SNP, Labour and Liberal ministers, there's a long way to go before Parliament has a majority to do something about either issue," said Mr Harvie.
