Man in court over death of elderly woman

A man has appeared in court charged with murdering an elderly woman whose body was discovered at a sheltered housing complex.

Kevin Rooney, 25, from Edinburgh, made no plea or declaration when he appeared in private at Edinburgh Sheriff Court today.

The body of the 74-year-old woman was found at sheltered housing in the city’s Longstone Park at around 2pm on Sunday.

The case was continued for further examination and Mr Rooney was remanded in custody until his next court appearance on November 9.
