While the ghost of Christmas past is long gone, this special edition of Front Row looks at how leading musicians respond to working in the shadow of past success, with contributions from Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Damon Albarn, Paul Weller, Coldplay and The Police.

LAST NIGHT OF THE PROMS 2008

Radio 3, 9.30pm-midnight

Highlights include Welsh baritone Bryn Terfel performing as Wolfram in Tannhuser, Verdi's Falstaff and Scarpia in Tosca. Drawing together the performers in London's Royal Albert Hall with those at Proms In The Park events in Belfast, Glasgow, London and Swansea, Anna Meredith's new commission is also performed.

Radio Scotland, 10.05pm-1am

Party not going with a swing round your gaff? The eclectic tastes of Robbie Shepherd, Bryan Burnett and Vic Galloway are being offered by Radio Scotland to see you into 2009, which should fuel a Scottish-country-rock blow-out of unseen proportions.

Who better to provide your soundtrack into 2009 than the man with arguably the best musical taste in the country. This year Jools is joined by Martha and the Vandellas, Dizzee Rascal, Annie Lennox, The Ting Tings, Dave Edmunds, Duffy, Svang, Adele, Sam Sparro, The Hold Steady, Rico Rodriguez, Stereophonics frontman Kelly Jones and Lily Allen.

Kate Thornton presents the pop princess's own private party in front of thousands, covering his 40 years in rock'n'roll.

This year's spoofing includes Neil Oliver presenting and alternative 'History Of Scotland', and a run through the football's tabloid tales from the back and front pages in 2008.

THE LIVE HOGMANAY SHOW

STV, 11.15pm

Leading STV's fare on Wednesday night, this one-off documentary about legendary Scots comic Chic Murray features excerpts from his acts and talks to Andy Cameron, Alex Norton and Dorothy Paul. Midnight broadcasts from Glasgow's George Square, Edinburgh's Princes Street, Stonehaven's fireball procession and Inverness's celebrations.

HOGMANAY LIVE

BBC1, 11.50pm

Sharleen Spiteri, Leon Jackson, Phil Cunningham and Aly Bain help liven up the celebrations as Jackie Bird and Hardeep Singh Kohli broadcast from Edinburgh Castle's Great Hall.
