Hogmanay 2009 celebrations across Scotland
EDINBURGH may be the most famous of the Scottish Hogmanay celebrations, but there are still plenty of parties happening outside the capital.
• Glasgow's street party in George Square
Glasgow's Hogmanay celebrations centre around George Square. Scottish legends Deacon Blue are the headliners for this year's gig, with support coming from Orange Unsigned Act winner Tommy Reilly and Bahookie, one of Scotland's premier ceilidh bands. Also playing will be the as-yet-unnamed winners of the Road to Hogmanay, the city's annual search for an unsigned band to open the party. Aspiring bands audition in a series of showcases over the course of December, and the winner is decided by a public vote. With previous winners including The View, Snow Patrol and Paolo Nutini, whoever they choose is sure to be one to watch. Gates open at 7.30pm. Inverness is hosting Scotland's biggest free Hogmanay party with the Red Hot Highland Fling. Wear something red to see in the New Year dancing to The Red Hot Chilli Pipers, Blazin Fiddles and the Peatbog Faeries. The party starts at 8pm in Northern Meeting Park Arena.
Stirling is having its annual party in Stirling Castle, this year headlined by Sandi Thom. Support is provided by X Factor favourites The Macdonald Brothers, and Freddie Mercury impersonator (and Stars In Their Eyes winner) Gary Mullen. At midnight, a mass of pipers and drummers beat a retreat across the drawbridge, as fireworks explode in the sky above. The party starts at 9.30pm.
