Hirst's work fetches £111m

RECORD-BREAKING artist Damien Hirst last night said "people would rather put their money into butterflies than banks" after economic gloom failed to dampen enthusiasm for his work.

A two-day sale of Hirst pieces – several featuring butterflies – yesterday set a record of 111 million for an auction dedicated to one artist, Sotheby's said. The London auction house said that the total was ten times the previous record, set in 1993 for 88 works by Picasso.
