Highway to Holyrood for Scots of AC/DC
ROCK band AC/DC are to be honoured at Holyrood in recognition of their Scottish roots.
Christine Grahame, an MSP for the South of Scotland, has lodged a parliamentary motion, titled "AC/DC, We Salute You", calling for the achievements of the group to be acknowledged.
Founders Angus and Malcolm Young were born in Glasgow before the family moved to Australia in 1963. Frontman Bon Scott, who died in 1980, was born in Kirriemuir, where there is a plaque in his honour.
The band have sold more than 150 million records worldwide since they were formed in 1973 and for a concert in Glasgow in 1978, they wore the Scotland football strip. AC/DC will play Hampden Park next year.
She said: "It is clear Scott had a strong sense of his identity, from the 'Scotland forever' tattoo he had on his arm to his playing the bagpipes on the track It's A Long Way To The Top.
"I think AC/DC have long deserved official recognition from their homeland and my motion will go some way towards recognising that."
