Highland cuts 'frightening'

THE prospect of staff cuts to help Highland Council achieve £100 million of savings over for years has been described as "frightening", by trade union Unison.

The council announced this week that hundreds of jobs would be lost and schools would have to shut as budget allocations would not be increased.

Unison says the under threat workforce is the council's single most valuable asset and is already under great pressure.

A spokesman said: "The thought of further reductions in staffing is frightening."
