High-frying Mars chemistry

THE calorie-laden formula of the notorious deep-fried Mars bar came under scrutiny at a chemistry conference this week.

Student Georgina Rayner examined the artery-hardening battered bombshell at the the Royal Society of Chemistry's conference in Glasgow. Delegates found the 600-calorie Mars was almost a meal in itself and did provide the three basic nutrients – carbohydrate, protein and fats – but in an unbalanced way.
