Hidden Gems: Cargo

LOCATED at the bottom of the Millennium Link canal, Cargo is now home to the city's young, hip crowd looking for an antidote to the George Street overdose of late and the hustle and bustle that goes with it. And from polished black furniture and leather booths to large glass panes, this destination is clearly hitting the spot, and is definitely a bar with style as opposed to one of the myriad of samey style bars.

The drinks menu comprises a huge selection of wines, beers, premium spirits as well as some great cocktails. The extensive food menu provides punters with a wide array of appetising sustenance. And everything is refreshingly affordable – even those drinks.

But the best bit about Cargo is its attitude towards a good night out. No people watching, no door policy. Just people out to have a good time. Which is exactly why the two-storey bar and restaurant now hosts themed parties and private film screenings for the cinema's hottest flicks. Tomorrow sees Cargo's Quantum of Solace themed night, with cocktails, canaps and a private screening of the film, followed by an after party. Now that is a hidden gem.

Cargo, Edinburgh Quay, 129 Fountainbridge, 0131-659 7880
