Cars and smokers

I was disappointed but not wholly surprised at your editorial and your support for doctors in banning smoking in cars (24 March). I don't have young children any longer. I drive my car. It's classed as a private car. My private car. I smoke. How do unelected doctors have the impudence to attack my freedom to make my own choice about smoking a perfectly legal product in property belonging to me?

It doesn't affect the rise in global warming any more than a non-smoker's car and has no effect at all on other people.

I thought that such measures were up to Parliament to decide but it seems that I was sadly mistaken and any pressure group can now apply its own agenda.

For once the Scottish Executive is showing a bit of sense by saying that Holyrood has no plans to introduce such a ban on smoking and thus dissuading possible madness. Your editorial should have at least some respect for those who disagree with its statement.
