Hibs boss and hobbit team up for home fixture
HIBS manager Bobby Williamson is to take centre stage at a new exhibition celebrating the greatest people to have lived in a Glasgow housing estate.
Glasgow-born Williamson will be featured along with Lord of the Rings star Billy Boyd in the exhibition on the history of the Easterhouse estate where both were raised.
The showcase by residents takes an imaginative and colourful look at the history of the housing estate from prehistoric times to the present day and includes themes such as gangs and local churches.
Boyd, who plays hobbit Pippin in the epic blockbuster, and Williamson are joined in the exhibition by actor Gerard Kelly, who is currently starring in Aladdin at the city’s King’s Theatre.
It has been produced by local residents who form the Trondra Local History Group, in partnership with John Wheatley College and The Open Museum, the community outreach section of Glasgow Museums.
The exhibition has been touring community venues around the Easterhouse area and is currently on display in the library of John Wheatley College.
Bobby Williamson joined Hibernian from fellow Premierleague club Kilmarnock last February, following the controversial axing of previous player/manager and former French international Frank Sauzee, in a 1 million five-year deal.
His record during 12 years as a player and manager at Kilmarnock was highly-successful - a Scottish Cup win and European football four seasons out of five - and he is hoping to repeat that with the Edinburgh club.
Williamson also starred for Rangers in the 1980s.
