Help for NHS volunteers

VOLUNTEERS for NHS Lothian have taken part in a campaign to regulate those who give up their time for the health service.

The scheme, which was instigated by the Scottish Government to improve standards of care, has already seen 30 voluntary workers for the health board handed certificates.

Health chiefs want to make sure that volunteers, many of whom have given years to the service, are fully covered. Eddie Egan, the employee director, said: "NHS Lothian recognises the valuable contribution that healthcare support workers make."
