A tattooed fiend who turned into a monster when he listened to heavy metal music was yesterday jailed for ten years for raping three women.
Father-of-two Donnie Renfrew, 48, carried out horrific sexual and physical abuse on five victims over a 26-year period.
Yesterday at the High Court in Glasgow, Judge Norman Ritchie QC told him: “You behaved in an an abhorrent way towards five women. These women lived in different parts of the country, yet told similar stories of what you did to them.
“You abused these women physically and sexually. What you did to these women was shocking, horrifying and demeaning to them.”
Renfrew will be monitored in the community for five years after his release from jail and has been placed on the sex offenders’ register.
Judge Ritchie told him he was at high risk of reoffending and posed a danger to women. He added: “This was extremely harmful behaviour for which you accept no responsibility.”
Defence QC John Scullion earlier told the court: “Mr Renfrew … maintains his innocence.”
The offences were committed between 1986 and 2013 in Lanarkshire, Ayrshire and the Borders, while Renfrew was in relationships with the women. He behaved aggressively towards them and frequently humiliated them. One of victim said in evidence: “He would stick his tongue out, his eyes were bulging and he would jump about and dance about to the music. It was heavy, heavy metal he listened to.”
Renfrew, who used to work for East Kilbride district council before working in conservation, claimed that any sex was consensual and also denied assaulting and bullying his victims.
He said they were liars who got together on Facebook to concoct stories about him. When asked why they did this, he replied: “Jealousy, bitterness and financial gain.”
Renfrew alsoaccused the police of conducting a “witch-hunt” against him.
He showed no emotion as he was led away yesterday.
