Health board on course to meet targets
NHS Lothian is "well placed" to meet a series of Scottish Government health targets, despite the financial climate.
The health board will be expected to make an extra 50 million worth of savings this year, but Holyrood still wants improved performance, including increasing the numbers of cancers detected at the first stage by 25 per cent, intensifying the offensive on superbugs and integrating health with social care.
Chief executive James Barbour said: "NHS Lothian is well place to meet these commitments and it is essential that we continue to invest our money in areas that will have the greatest impact."
He added that hitting these targets was a key way of allowing NHS Lothian to join the top 25 healthcare organisations in the world. The health board has also introduced its own set of efficiency targets, including reducing the workforce by 2000 by March next year.
