Health board hits target
NHS Lothian has hit its financial targets for the year despite the recession, board members have heard.
Even though the health board was well behind its ideal target earlier this year, the position has drastically improved, meaning it has actually underspent by 200,000.
It prompted vice-chairman Eddie Egan to say: "This is a turnaround worthy of a place on Britain's Got Talent, it has been that good."
Efficiency savings by staff contributed to 20 million worth of savings, against an initial budget of 1.2 billion, making the health board one of the best in Scotland for cash savings.
Health chiefs added that other savings made had been reinvested into patient care.
