Youths urged to get MMR jag
HEALTH experts today urged young people to be immunised against mumps after more than 1500 people in the Lothians were struck down with the potentially deadly virus last year.
Public health expert Dr Dermot Gorman of NHS Lothian said: "In 2005, there were five outbreaks of mumps in Lothian associated with places such as universities, schools, or military barracks and, overall, most cases were in the 15-24 age group.
"NHS Lothian strongly recommends the MMR vaccination for protection against mumps, measles and rubella, for all young people up to the age of 25."
