Women urged to drink less
A NEW campaign has been launched to encourage women to think about the health effects of regularly drinking to excess.
The Scottish Government’s Alcohol Behaviour Change is encouraging women to “Drop a Glass Size” in 2012.
Figures in the Scottish Health Survey show that around 38 per cent of women regularly exceed sensible drinking guidelines. An estimated 1 in 30 female deaths in Scotland is alcohol-related.
The campaign encourages people to make small changes to the way they drink such as alternating alcohol with soft drinks or water, and having two alcohol-free days a week.

Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at 01:45 PMThe phrase "dirnking to excess" used to mean getting blootered off your face. In that context, drinkking to excess on a regular basis is not a particularly good idea. Nowadays, the phrase "drinking to excess" is defined as having more than a couple of glasses of wine (for women). Basing (unsolicited) advice on this ludicrously low guideline level makes any such advice totally meaningless.
