Welcome to the nerve centre of Scotland's fight against the pandemic
DEEP beneath the headquarters of the Scottish Government, hewn from the volcanic rock of Calton Hill in Edinburgh, is the nerve centre where tactics to battle the growing swine flu outbreak are being drawn up by ministers and officials.
The bunker is Scotland's equivalent to Cobra (Cabinet Office Briefing Room A) – where responses to disasters, terrorism and other emergencies are thrashed out by Westminster.
Surrounded by maps, telephones, computers and radios, Scottish ministers and officials chart minute-by-minute what is happening on the ground.
At the heart of the bunker is the Resilience Room, where critical decisions are made by those charged with protecting public safety.
A team meets daily to formulate disaster plans in response to worst-case scenarios.
