Athletes performing at the top level - or working their way up to it - will encounter injuries sooner or later.

It’s an occupational hazard that requires specialist help, and for Scottish athletes much of that is provided by the sportscotland Institute of Sport. Alex Boyle, the institute’s strength and conditioning coach, helps athletes from various sports recover after injury. The Glasgow-based Boyle told The Scotsman what his job entails, and why his role is so vital to the rehabilitation process.
