Ten suspected swine flu cases investigated

TEN possible cases of swine flu remain under investigation in Scotland, it was announced today.

A case previously classed as probable has tested negative – but a fresh probable case has emerged in its place.

The developments take Scotland's swine flu tally to five confirmed, one probable, and ten possible cases.

The previous probable case which tested negative is of the wife of a man in NHS Lothian who had already tested negative.

The couple had been in Las Vegas and returned to Scotland via New York.

The new probable case is a female contact of a confirmed case in NHS Greater Glasgow.

Health Secretary Nicola Sturgeon said: "The new probable case is a 45-year-old woman from Greater Glasgow and Clyde and her sample is being tested further to find out whether she is a confirmed case.

"We hope to have the result shortly and will make this known when we receive it.

"It is, however, good news that a previously-identified probable case in Lothian has been found to be negative. That means that at present in Scotland we still have only five confirmed cases of this virus."
