Takeaways for toddlers on the menu for many under-threes
TODDLERS are regularly feasting on takeaways, crisps and fizzy drinks, a survey revealed today.
The poll, carried out for a new nutrition initiative Little People's Plates, found 29 per cent of children under the age of three ate a takeaway at least once a week.
A further 19 per cent of toddlers are fed takeaways or adult ready meals for most meals, while 23 per cent eat crisps and 16 per cent drink fizzy drinks almost every day.
Despite these figures, the survey found 83 per cent of mothers polled thought their child had a healthy, balanced diet.
The findings were published in the report Food and Nutrition for the Under Threes by the Infant and Toddler Forum.
The forum, which focuses on infant and child health, growth and nutrition, set up Little People's Plates to highlight the importance of correct nutrition for children aged one to three.
The group is supported by a grant from baby food manufacturer Nutricia Ltd, and the campaign aims to provide practical tips and guidance to help to make the right food choices for toddlers.
