Shock warning over cost of diabetes

TEN people a week have a limb amputated as a result of diabetes in Scotland, a charity warned yesterday.

Diabetes UK highlighted the shock statistic to raise awareness of the "life-shattering" impact of the illness. Around 200,000 people have been diagnosed with diabetes in Scotland and more than 60,000 have the condition but are not aware of it.
