Scots to pioneer new prescriptions system
SCOTLAND has launched the first electronic prescriptions service between all GP practices and community pharmacies.
The electronic Acute Medication Service (eAMS) sees doctors submitting prescriptions into the same online system used by pharmacists, cutting the risk of errors and increasing efficiency.
The system will mean less reliance on paper prescriptions, thought there are no plans to go paper-free.
Martin Green, chairman of Community Pharmacy Scotland, said: "The introduction of eAMS further contributes to safe systems, by improving communication between GP practices and community pharmacies."
