Scotland's swine flu total falls
THE number of people infected with swine flu in Scotland has dropped in the past week, health officials said today.
Estimates suggest about 3,000 people contracted the H1N1 virus, down from more than 4,000 the previous week.
The rate of GP consultations for flu-like symptoms fell from 55 to 48.4 per 100,000 people.
About 10% of community samples tested positive for swine flu, compared to 8% the week before.
This suggests about 1,050 people had the virus, which health officials rounded up to 3,000 to take into account those who did not seek medical attention.
Health Secretary Nicola Sturgeon said the number of practices providing surveillance will increase in the coming weeks to improve accuracy.
She added: "NHS 24 and our GPs are responding very well to the pandemic, as is our Scottish flu response service.
"The latest NHS 24 figures show that the number of flu-related daily calls fell to around 2,000."
