Scotland asks for more swine flu cash from Westminster
SCOTTISH ministers have made a fresh attempt to secure extra money to cover the costs of mass vaccination against swine flu.
Finance Secretary John Swinney wrote to the Treasury this week calling for access to UK Government funds.
His plea was made one month after Health Secretary Nicola Sturgeon argued that mass vaccination was in line with policy across the UK and should be paid for by the Treasury.
The impact of dealing with swine flu was compared to the foot and mouth outbreak, which was tackled through UK contingency funds.
The UK Government has rejected previous calls and said all devolved administrations should pay out of existing budgets.
A Treasury spokesman said: "The administration and delivery of the response to swine flu is devolved, and so are the budgets to meet the costs."
Similar responses have been given to Welsh ministers, who also want access to central funds.
The Scottish Government confirmed Mr Swinney had outlined his case to the Treasury on Tuesday.
