Sat Nav surgery on 1,000 knees

SURGEONS yesterday spoke of their success in using a knee "Sat Nav" to improve results for patients.

Frederic Picard, of the Golden Jubilee National Hospital in Clydebank, has used the computer-assisted technique he pioneered to carry out more than 1,000 knee replacements. He says with traditional methods, only 70- 80 per cent of replacements are aligned correctly.

Yesterday The Scotsman revealed the technique is being tested for ligament surgery for common sporting injuries.
