Professor offers up recipes to beat cancer
A NEW prostate care cookbook could help men to avoid getting cancer, it has been claimed.
The recipes, based around "superfoods" with health-giving properties, may also help men with prostate cancer fight the disease, experts said yesterday.
Nutritionist Professor Margaret Rayman put the cookbook together with researchers at the University of Surrey.
The recipes feature foods that have been proven to combat the disease, which affects about 35,000 men a year in the UK and kills 10,000.
The foods include vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower and Brussels sprouts, as well as tomatoes, pomegranates, soya and garlic. "Most people with prostate cancer want to do something for themselves, and I think diet gives them that opportunity," Prof Rayman told the British Science Festival, which is taking place at the university.
The book also offers tips such as leaving garlic and onion for ten minutes after chopping before cooking to enhance beneficial chemical reactions.
