PM considers ‘drunk tanks’

DAVID Cameron will today vow to take on the “scandal” of public drunkenness and alcohol abuse that costs the NHS in England and Wales £2.7 billion a year.

On a visit to a hospital, the Prime Minister will insist that bars, supermarkets and the drinks industry must help ensure responsible drinking becomes more than “just a slogan”.

He will hit out at the “reckless” behaviour of an “irresponsible” minority and cite figures suggesting the alcohol-related costs to society as a whole are between £17-£22bn a year.

Mr Cameron will call for “innovative” solutions and raise the prospect of “drunk tanks”, widely used in Europe and the US.

A decade of stagflation will lower drunkenness rates. Does anyone really believe a Conservative PM bringing forward alcohol restrictions. Before the last General Election Diageo one of the largest drinks companies in the world, donated £67,000 to the Conservative Party.

"must help ensure responsible drinking becomes more than “just a slogan”." Well, if you want it to be more than just a slogan, stop dumbing the message down and treating us all like idiots then. The latest anti-drink advert is ludicrously inane and a gross insult to any right-minded adult----whether they drink or not. What you need to do is to associate machismo with being able to HANDLE your drink, then people would start learning to do so. Treating people like idiots and telling them that they are "binge drinking" if they have more than a couple of pints in the evening is stupid and counter-productive. Start hardening up the messages and using them to bring peer pressure to bear by putting across the (true) message that if you can handle your drink you are a big man (or lady) and of you can't then you are a wimp to be ridiculed.

We need to get people back into pubs. Since the smoking ban more people are drinking at home, and because drinking at home is cheaper they are drinkijg more. With alcohol being more available in the home more children are drinking on a regular basis.

Will Cameron have a drunk tank set up at Westminster for all the MPs and "Lords" when they get smashed at their subsidised bars?

' PM considers ‘drunk tanks’ ...............I 'considered' them 3 years ago when I wrote a submission in support of Kenny McAskill; why has nobody given me the fame and glory the PM thinks he deserves?
