Petition given on bed cut fears
A PETITION with more than 6,000 signatures was yesterday presented to health secretary Nicola Sturgeon, urging her to protect a specialist rheumatology unit in the Highlands.
NHS Highland is reviewing the Dingwall-based service and there are fears beds could be cut or the unit could close at weekends.
Ms Sturgeon said she would be watching the situation closely.
Dave Thompson, a Highlands and Islands SNP MSP, who backs the campaign, said: "The health secretary was presented with overwhelming evidence of massive public support for this extremely valuable and unique unit."
