Parents confused over meningitis

MOST parents mistakenly believe their children are fully protected against all strains of meningitis, a poll reveals.

Just over half (51 per cent) think their youngster has had jabs against all strains, while a further 24 per cent are unsure.

There is no vaccine against meningitis B, the most common and deadly form of the disease, although jabs do protect against the other frequently seen strains, Hib, meningitis C and pneumococcal meningitis.

Cases of meningitis peak in February, prompting the charity Meningitis UK to commission the research.
