A 70-year-old man was reported to the Procurator Fiscal in connection a road collision near Deerness, while a 22-year-old appeared at Kirkwall Sheriff Court charged with driving while disqualified.

Orkney area commander Chief Inspector Matt Webb said: “It is very disappointing that we have had to deal with so many offences on the roads of Orkney in just a few weeks.

“The number of drivers who have been detected drink driving is particularly concerning and will not be tolerated.

“As has been said many times before, taking control of a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol not only puts your own life at risk but that of every other innocent road user.

“We will be increasing patrols to provide reassurance to law-abiding motorists and detect anyone not following the rules of the road.

“Anyone driving in an anti-social manner or while drunk will be dealt with robustly. Do not risk it.”

Anyone with concerns about a drink driver or any other issues on the road should contact Police Scotland on 101 or 999 in an emergency
