Norovirus outbreak closes Aberdeen Royal Infirmary ward

ONE of Scotland’s busiest hospitals has closed a ward to new patients following an outbreak of norovirus.

Ward 34 at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary has been closed to new admissions after suspected cases of the winter vomiting disease emerged.

An NHS Grampian spokeswoman said yesterday: “Ward 34 at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary has been affected by norovirus and is not currently taking any new admissions.

“Norovirus is also sometimes known as winter vomiting virus as it is particularly common at this time of year. It is widely present in the community. Good hand hygiene and avoiding hospital visits when you are symptomatic can greatly reduce its spread.”

Workers in the offshore oil industry have also warned to take extra precautions.
