NHS contract for cabs linked to crime family
A CAB firm which has been linked to a crime family is on the verge of landing a major health service contract.
Scotland on Sunday can reveal that Glasgow firm Network Private Hire, which has been linked with the McGovern family, was yesterday officially named as the preferred bidder for a two-year, 2m contract with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.
The firm beat a rival tender from Glasgow's black cab drivers, who have been working for the health service for more than half a century. If the Network bid is confirmed as the winner, the firm will ferry patients and supplies between the city's hospitals.
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde said it had chosen a preferred bidder for its Glasgow taxi contract and losing firms had 10 days to appeal.
Glasgow Taxis Ltd, the body that represents black hackney cabs in the city, said it would challenge the decision. Network Private Hire declined to comment.
