Lifestyle leads men to an earlier death

MEN are “lagging behind” in life expectancy, health experts say.

Despite a rise in the length of time the average European
person lived, they said men had not yet reached the average level that women had in 1980.

The World Health Organisation’s European Health Report, which examines the status of 53 countries, found that in 2010 average life expectancy for women was 80 and 72.5 for men. Lifestyle and occupational differences “largely explain this gap”.

The report also found that Spanish women have the highest life expectancy in Europe
– well ahead of their British counterparts.

They make it to 85 on average, managing 2.4 more years than those in the UK, which came equal 19th with Portugal.
