Late-night TV is 'bad for health'
WATCHING TV before you go to bed gives you a bad night's sleep and can lead to chronic health problems, say scientists.
Psychiatrists were surprised to find TV-watching appeared to be the most important time cue for the start of the sleep period.
Their study of 21,475 adults found TV viewing was by far the most dominant pre-sleep activity – taking almost 50 per cent of pre-bed time.
Researcher Dr Mathias Basner, of the Sleep and Chronobiology Division, Pennsylvania University, said: "
According to our results, watching less evening TV and postponing work start time in the morning appear to be the candidate behavioural changes for achieving additional sleep and reducing chronic sleep debt."
